Rose Barsnack Obituary

Rose Mary (Pirillo) Barsnack, 87, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, peacefully left this earthly world on September 12,
2020.
She entered this life on September 28, 1932 in Ciro, Catanzaro, Italy, born to the late Antonio Pirillo and the
late Francheschina (Giardino) Pirillo. In addition to her parents, she is now reunited with her husband of 56 years,
Nick Barsnack, a brother, Nick Pirillo, and sisters Mary (Pirillo) Torini, Mary Pirillo and Mary Pirillo (yes, that is not a
misprint, there were 3 Mary’s), along with a host of friends and relatives whom she has dearly missed.
Rose graduated from Follansbee High School in 1950 and soon entered training as a cosmetologist. She was
owner and operator of Rose’s Beauty Salon in Steubenville, Ohio for several years before she and her husband
moved their growing family to Mingo Junction, Ohio. There, she continued sharing her craft from the beauty shop
her husband built in their new home. She enjoyed many years of working from her home while raising her family.
When she closed her beauty shop in 1983, she quickly went to work for Merle Norman Salon as a beautician and
manicurist. She loved her profession and worked over 50 years before retiring in 2003 to care for her husband
until his passing in 2010.
During these years, Rose was also active in her children’s lives as a homeroom parent, teacher’s aide, Mingo
Booster Club member, Mingo Band Parent, PTA member and officer, Junior Women’s Club and all-around
chauffeur. Yet she still found time to be active in Annunciation Church Catholic Women’s Club, Annunciation
Church Parish Council Committee, and her friendly monthly card group. After the closing of Annunciation Church,
she joined St. Agnes Catholic Church and St. Agnes Catholic Women’s Club. She was also a member of the Prime-
Time Senior Center, Fun Seekers, and the Gadabouts social clubs.
Rose loved entertaining and holidays were her favorite. Her family looked forward to gathering for Mama
Rosa’s delicious meals whether it be Sunday dinner, holidays, or any given occasion. Her talent for cooking led to
work as a cook for the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Executive Officers and various events held at St. John’s Arena
In declining health, she left Ohio to live with her daughter’s family in Kentucky. She spent the next 2 years
enjoying life as a “southerner” while visiting grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Upon returning to Ohio, she
resided at Memories of Marie in Toronto until her passing.
She is lovingly remembered as “Mom” by her survivors: a son, Martin (Gitte) Barsnack of Los Angeles, CA;
daughters Michaele Barsnack of Columbus, Ohio, Maureen (Karl) Napier of Glasgow, KY and Kimberly (Anthony)
Tedeschi of Steubenville, Ohio; as “Nunna” by her five grandchildren, Emily (Matt) Henderson of Raleigh, NC,
Nicholas Napier of Nashville, TN, Matthew (Amanda) Napier of Orange Beach, AL, Renee (Justin) Davis of
Pickerington, Ohio, and Jayna Tedeschi of Steubenville, OH; and as “Grand-Nunna” by her six great-grandchildren:
Delaney and Grady Davis, Averitt and Atkins Henderson, and Steven and Sophia McNeal.

Arrangements are being handled by Schuetz Funeral home, 235 Clifton Ave., Mingo Junction, OH. Services will be
held at St Agnes Catholic Church on St. Clair St. in Mingo with interment in Union Cemetery in Steubenville.
Viewing will be held at the church on Wednesday, September 16 th , beginning at 11:00 am until the Funeral
