Obituary

Charles Lynn Haggerty, age 78, passed away at home surrounded by family on 8/18/23. He was born 

on 12/24/44 in Martins Ferry, OH. He was a graduate of Warren Consolidated High School Class of 

1962. He was a retired Millwright from Local 1079 out of Steubenville OH, having been in the trade 

for 38 years. Following retiring as a Millwright, he was employed by PCS Construction as Project 

Superintendent overseeing the building of new schools in Bellaire, Cambridge, and Bridgeport as 

well as renovations and additions to Steubenville High School. He also served as a part-time police 

officer for Yorkville and Tiltonsville, OH and as a Reserve Deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriffs 

Office during the 1980’s. 

Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Matilda (Tillie) Rae Haggerty (Waller), his 

mother Elnora Haggerty (Dietch), his father Jack Haggerty, his sister Jean Fox, and his mother-in-law 

Lillian Waller (Hess).

Surviving family are a sister Darlene (Jolly) Vickers, a brother Don “Duck” (Kathy) Haggerty, a son 

Chuck (Debbie) Haggerty, a daughter Dawn Wharton (Haggerty), and sister-in-law Phyllis Starr.

Charles had five grandchildren, Michelle (Cody) Skonecy, Brianna (Laney) Simone, Cortni (Alex) 

Vanezalos, Amanda Wharton, Jessica Wharton. He had 6 great-grandchildren, Noah Drake, Alexis 

Drake, Paisley Monk, Leena and Eli Simone, Cameron Parker and a granddaughter Avanna Vanezalos 

who is due to be born in October of this year. He also had numerous nieces and nephews and a pet 

Yorkie named Mikey. 

There will be no visitation hours, however friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service 

at the Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum/Chapel on 8/22/23 at 11am. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary donations be made to Valley Hospice, Rayland OH.
