Thomas George McCauley passed away on October 6, 2026, at Reynolds Memorial due to a heart attack. He was 71.
Born on November 13, 1954, Thomas lived an accomplished and fulfilled life marked by independence, warmth, and unmistakable style. He graduated with the high school class of 1972 in Chicago, Illinois, and went on to build a varied working life. He worked for International Harvester, served in sales for bathroom and kitchen remodeling, and at one time was a model for the Eileen Ford Modeling Agency. Each chapter reflected something essential about him: confidence, presence, and an ease with people that made him memorable wherever he went.
Thomas was an outgoing and erudite man, well-traveled, well dressed, and known for his great smile. He was a very nice person whose sociable nature drew others in with ease. He loved reading and enjoyed movies, theater, Broadway, and time at the gym. He also loved good food and entertainment, and he especially loved to celebrate the holidays. In the rhythm of family gatherings and festive occasions, he brought humor, conversation, and delight—never one to be remembered for baking the turkey, but always one to be remembered for making the occasion brighter.
He is survived by his two good friends, John Roxby and Robert Haithcock, whose companionship held an important place in his life. He is also survived by his siblings, brothers Mike and Joe, and sisters Theresa, Marie, and Kathleen, as well as by his nieces and nephews, who remain part of the family circle that carries his memory forward with affection.
Thomas was preceded in death by his father, George McCauley; his mother, Virginia Marie McCauley; and his brother, Pattick McCauley.
Those who knew Thomas will remember a man of intelligence, charm, and presence—someone independent in spirit, social by nature, and generous in the joy he brought to ordinary and special days alike. His memory will live on in the stories shared by family and friends, in the laughter of holiday remembrances, and in the lasting impression of a life fully and distinctively lived. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
