Sandra Kay (Humes) Oberle, 86, a devoted homemaker and cherished matriarch, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on March 21, 2026, at Wheeling Hospital. Born on March 13, 1940, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Sandra's life was marked by love, dedication, and an enduring commitment to her family. She will be reunited with her love Martin when she gets to heaven.
A proud graduate of Wheeling High School’s Class of 1958, Sandra embraced the role of homemaker in her own home with grace and heartfelt devotion. Her most treasured accomplishment was raising her children overseas, a complex and challenging endeavor she met with steadfast determination and care. Despite moving twenty-two times while nurturing her family, she maintained an unwavering spirit, although she was known to prefer stability and often expressed her dislike for frequent relocations.
Sandra brought warmth and joy to those around her through her kindness, humor, and deep love for her family. She was especially devoted to her husband, Martin Wesley Oberle, to whom she remained lovingly connected until his passing. Sandra also treasured her grandchildren, delighting in their company and the happiness they brought into her life. During the holidays, her special hors d’oeuvre and cookie tree became a beloved tradition, symbolizing the festive spirit she so enjoyed sharing.
Her home was filled with numerous interests and pastimes that reflected her gentle and creative nature. She enjoyed puzzles, cookbooks, and coloring books, pursuits that brought her peace and pleasure. Sandra was an aficionado of classic entertainment, particularly old horror and Godzilla movies, as well as timeless series such as Sherlock Holmes and Charlie Chan. In quieter moments, she could often be found savoring one of her favorite treats—Reese’s cups—or indulging in toasted bacon, simple comforts that brought delight to her everyday life.
Sandra’s love extended beyond her human family; she held a special place in her heart for all her animals, including her devoted dog, Bonnie, who predeceased her. Her affection for animals spoke to her compassionate and nurturing spirit.
Sandra is survived by her daughter, Holly Beth (Mark) Hughes of Wheeling; Martin Oberle Jr. of Texas; and Marsa Rodman of St. Petersburg. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Autumn Hughes, Jennifer (Joshua) Boner, and Rebecca Hughes, all of Wheeling; Joe Bradfield of Michigan; James Rodman of Colorado; Alex Rodman and John Oberle of Texas. Along with her grandchildren, Sandra was blessed with many great-grandchildren who will carry forward her loving legacy.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ralph and Mariania (Bulian) Humes; her husband, Martin Wesley Oberle; her son, John Oberle; and her faithful dog, Bonnie.
Sandra Kay Oberle’s life was one of deep commitment and unconditional love. Her kindness, humor, and devotion touched many, leaving behind a lasting imprint on all who knew her. She will be remembered with profound respect and affection by her family and friends, whose lives she so beautifully enriched.
