Rosa Lee (Payne) Stone, affectionately known as Mama Mia, graced this world with her presence on February 16, 1948, in Nutter Fort, West Virginia. She gently departed from us on October 12, 2025, at her cherished home, leaving behind a legacy that will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Rosa led a vibrant and fulfilling life, achieving her dream as a licensed hairdresser in both Ohio and Alabama for over fifty remarkable years. Her career was more than just a profession; it was a true passion. Whether she was elevating someone’s spirit with a new hairstyle or sharing laughter and stories in her salon chair, Rosa’s warmth and creativity touched many lives and fostered lasting friendships.

She was a devoted mother to her son, Billy J. Tompkins, and his beloved wife Katie, who found in Rosa a second mother in every sense of the word. Rosa extended her heart to Jimmy Pahides, whom she considered a son, embracing him into her loving family. She took immense pride in her grandsons, Travis and Avery McMillan, who were a source of joy and inspiration in her life. Rosa's nurturing spirit radiated through the generations, as she cherished her siblings—Lova Westlake, Louie Payne, and Helen Wilkins of New Summerset—as well as her brother Robert (Debbie) Payne of Toronto, OH.

The love Rosa had for her family extended far beyond her immediate circle, encompassing a myriad of nieces and nephews. Each held a special place in her heart, including Michael Payne, Danny Payne, G.L. Rowan, Clint Rowan, Scott Rowan, Richard Westlake, Daniel Payne, Robbie Payne, and Clarann Hudson. To them, Rosa was not just an aunt; she was a confidante, a source of wisdom, and a pillar of unconditional love.

Rosa’s heart, however, bore the weight of loss as well. She mourned the passing of her parents, Joseph and Mary Jane (Turvey) Payne, who instilled in her the values of kindness and perseverance. Her significant other, Steve Pahides, who shared over thirty years of love and companionship with Rosa, remains lovingly remembered as someone who walked alongside her through both joys and challenges. Also missed are her brother, Joseph Payne Jr., and sister, Irene Rowan, along with cherished nieces and nephews: Gayla Payne, Debra Payne, Patrick Rowan, and Mary Jo Stine, whose memories will eternally echo in the warmth of her heart.

A visitation to celebrate Rosa's life will be held on October 18, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Schuetz Funeral Home located at 235 Clifton Ave, Mingo Junction, OH, followed by a heartfelt memorial service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jack Jackson officiating.
