Ronald Anthony "Pob" Pobolish, 76, of Moundsville, WV, formerly of Dillonvale, OH passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024 with the love of his life, Laurie Pobolish, by his side. He was born on June 10, 1948 to the late Tony and Julia (Dzigielewski) Pobolish. He leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. Ron wore many different "Hats" in his lifetime, known by several different names, and had a profound impact on the lives he touched. He was Ronnie to some, Coach to most, and was Dad and Pap to the family who adored him most. He began in Dillonvale, where his love for sports started at an early age. He went on to play football at West Virginia University and was a 3 year starter for the Mountaineers from '67-69 wearing the #22 jersey. He was an integral player on the historic 1969 team who not only won the Peach Bowl, but had one of the most impressive seasons in WVU history to date. He also played baseball for the Mountaineers baseball team in 1970 and wore the #10 Jersey. After graduating from WVU, he returned to the Ohio Valley and began an iconic 40 year coaching career with stops at Cadiz, John Marshall, Harrison Central, Buckeye Southwest, and Buckeye Local. He was inducted into the Ohio Valley Football Coaches Hall of Fame and he and his son ( Ron as a coach, Chet as a Football Player) were inducted into the 2023 Buckeye Local Hall of Fame. Ron was a stellar teammate and remained close friends with several of his WVU comrades throughout his lifetime, He loved sharing stories about the times they spent together both on and off the field. He was a mentor to his coaching staff and followed his assistant's careers long after they parted ways. He was a role model for his players and genuinely cared about each and every one of them. He remained close with several of his former players and was well respected by both his peers and opponents alike. Most importantly, he was a deeply devoted husband to Laurie for over 53 years and loved her endlessly. They had a once in a lifetime type of love that others can only dream of. He was a cherished father to Chet (Holly) Pobolish of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Ashley (Clint) Lucey of Glen Easton, WV and was extremely proud of them both. He and Chet shared a very deep bond that extends far beyond their shared interest in football. He was a beloved Pap to Aidan (Amanda) Lucey of Moundsville, Madge (Kota Bonds) Lucey of Glen Easton, and Lauran Pobolish of Oklahoma City, and bestowed his endless wisdom upon them. There will be a celebration of life service at a later date. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family. In Lieu of flowers donations maybe made to Valley Hospice 10686 OH-150, Rayland, OH 43943 in memory of Ronald Pobolish.
