Ronald James McFarland Sr., 79, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 7, 2026, at the Carriage Inn of Steubenville. Born on November 6, 1946, in Steubenville, Ronald dedicated himself to a remarkable 30-year career at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, where he made significant contributions on the Railroad.
In addition to his professional achievements, Ronald was a proud Army veteran, serving with distinction as a helicopter pilot. His sense of duty and commitment to his country was evident throughout his life.
Ronald's passions extended to the great outdoors; he loved hunting and fishing, and notably earned the title of Big Buck of the Year with a bow. These hobbies brought him immense joy and were a testament to his adventurous spirit.
Surviving Ronald are his beloved wife of 56 years, Marsha Lynn (Riley) McFarland, and their two children, Ronald (Jamie) James McFarland Jr. and Linda (Robert) Woodland, both of Mingo Junction. He also leaves behind grand child, Haley (Dennis) Burkett of Wintersville and Nathan Woodland, who played a vital role in his care during his later years, along with five others including Nathan Woodland, and eight great-grandchildren. His loyal companion, Jack, his fur baby, was known to accompany him everywhere.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, John Francis Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Feist) McFarland, and his siblings, John Francis McFarland Jr. and Sharon Lee McFarland, who together shaped his early years and instilled in him the values he held dear.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Carriage Inn of Steubenville for their exceptional care and kindness during Ronald's time there. Ronald James McFarland Sr. will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to service, and his zest for life. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
