Ronald Joseph Bird, 78, a devoted family man and passionate classic car enthusiast, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Steubenville, Ohio, due to unexpected natural causes. Born on May 8, 1947, at Trinity West Hospital, Ronald lived a life rich in service, dedication, and heartfelt joys.
An attendee of Wintersville High School, Ronald’s commitment to his country was evident in his service to the United States Navy, where he served for three years working on an oil tanker. His sense of discipline and duty carried over into his professional career and personal passions.
Ronald devoted many years to perfecting his craft in auto body repair and painting at Brandt Motors in Steubenville, Ohio. His meticulous attention to detail and pride in quality work made a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike. Beyond his professional achievements, Ronald’s greatest pride was his love for restoring classic cars—a pursuit that captured his heart and spirit, and also the car club he belonged to Fort Steuben Street Rods.
Those who knew Ronald remember him for his great sense of humor and his enthusiasm for many interests. He enjoyed watching car auction shows, held a deep loyalty to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and admired racing legend Dale Earnhardt Sr. Among his simple pleasures were savoring Coca-Cola, indulging in chocolate pie made by his stepdaughter on his birthday, and eating hot dogs while admiring classic cars.
Ronald is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Frances (Cox) Bird, with whom he shared 20 years of marriage. He is also survived by his son, Julian Bird of Steubenville; three brothers—Gene (Charlotte) Bird of Bloomingdale, Brian (Sheila) Boyd of Smithfield, Ohio, and Michael Bird of Texas—and his cherished little Morkie, Toko. His family will carry forward his memory and the legacy of his warm spirit.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Gene Ambrose and Florence Margaret (Pysnick) Bird, and by his son Ronald Dean Bird.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during memorial visitation at Schuetz Funeral Home, located at 235 Clifton Ave., Mingo Junction, Ohio 43938, on March 27, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with services from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. with Bishop James Agnew presiding.
