Listen to Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep reverence, we reflect on the life of Robert William Coulter, who departed this world on July 6, 2026, at his home, after bravely facing end stage C.O.P.D. Robert was born on February 9, 1950, in Steubenville, Ohio.

From his earliest days, Robert embodied the qualities of a gentle soul: very quiet, yet ever present and willing to help anyone in need. His kindness quietly touched countless lives, always offering more through actions than words. Family and friends remember his thoughtfulness.

Graduate of Steubenville Big Red class of 1968, Robert carried his work ethic and integrity into his long career with Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. He started in the Steubenville North Plant on the Ore Bridge and later contributed his skills in Mingo Junction’s Chemical Lab. Colleagues admired his reliability and dedication—he approached every task and every day with quiet resolve and a steadfast sense of responsibility.

Beyond the workplace, Robert found joy and meaning in life’s simple pleasures. He cherished the peace of boating and the camaraderie of camping with friends. The true treasures of his life, however, were found in the moments shared with family. Traveling to the beach with his daughter and beloved grandchildren filled his heart with happiness and created memories that will live on in their hearts.

Those who survive Robert carry his love and legacy forward. He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Coulter, of 53 years,  who stood by his side through every challenge and triumph. His daughter, Lori (Jeffrey) Taylor of Pickerington; granddaughter, Brionna Mann; and grandson, Brennen Taylor, many beloved niece, nephews, and dear friends, all share in the rich legacy of love, laughter, and kindness he left behind. Robert’s sister, Barb (Robert) Salomone, mourn the loss of a man whose support and affection wove their families together with unbreakable bonds.

As we honor Robert’s memory, we also tenderly remember those family members who preceded him in death: his father, Robert Walter Coulter; his mother, Mary Coulter; his sisters, Sharon (James) Brady and Mary Elizabeth Coulter, James Brady. Robert’s love for his family did not end with his final breath—it continues now, shining as a beacon of comfort for those who grieve his passing.

In this time of sorrow, may we find solace in the memories and love that Robert William Coulter bestowed so generously. His absence is deeply felt, but his legacy will forever inspire those privileged to have known him. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family.  The family would like to thank Valley Hospice for all their help.  In Lieu of Flowers donations can be made to Valley Hospice 10686 OH-150 Rayland OH.
