Steubenville, OH

Richard Jay Conkle II, a loving father and grandfather, whose vibrant spirit touched those around him, was born on December 24, 1966, in Chattahoochee, Georgia. A graduate of Oak Glen High School, Richard embarked on a journey that led him to forge a career at the Homer Laughlin China Company, where his dedication and skill were evident in every task he undertook.

From a young age, Richard displayed a remarkable curiosity about the world. He could often be found taking things apart, only to reassemble them with an ingenuity that improved upon their original form. This knack for tinkering mirrored his approach to life; he was always looking for ways to enhance the ordinary. He found joy in simple pleasures such as playing chess and euchre, engaging deeply with friends and family over the game, and immersing himself in the whimsical realms of YouTube, where he explored everything from how-to videos to captivating documentaries.

The colors gray and black resonated with Richard, reflecting a classic elegance and depth in his personality that endeared him to many. In every chess match and card game, his strategic mind shone through, revealing the profound thinker beneath his easygoing exterior.

Richard departed from this world on April 13, 2025, while surrounded by the compassionate care of the Valley Hospice Care Center North. He leaves behind two adoring daughters, Senica Conkle of Steubenville and Sarina Conkle of East Palestine, Ohio, who will cherish his memory and carry forward the legacy of his warmth and wisdom. Additionally, Richard took immense pride in being a grandfather to three grandchildren, Sareigha Gallagher, Alexzandra Conkle, and Jaelynn Blake, whose laughter and joy were sources of light in his life.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Richard Jay and Jennie Conkle, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became. As we remember Richard Jay Conkle II, we celebrate a life woven with creativity, curiosity, and love—a life that, though it has ended, will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
