Regis Joseph Marker Sr.

Regis Joseph Marker Sr., a man whose ornery spirit was only matched by his loving heart (and perhaps the tenacity with which he assembled furniture), passed away on April 21, 2026, at UPMC Presby after a lengthy illness. Born on March 4, 1946, in Wintersville, OH, Regis lived a life full of adventure, opinionated commentary, and plenty of time outdoors.

If you ever had the pleasure—or the “challenge”—of witnessing Regis put together a table, you know this story. One Christmas Eve, in a festive mood that surely involved a touch of holiday mischief, he assembled a table but somehow managed to put one piece on backwards (or upside down, or sideways—details remain as mysterious as Regis’s toolbox). Needless to say, the table promptly fell over, providing both a metaphor for life’s unpredictability and a memory that still makes his family chuckle.

Regis was renowned for his love of hunting, fishing, skeet shooting, and being outdoors. A proud member of the Jewett Sportsman's Club, he could often be found enjoying nature’s grandeur while honing his skills—or explaining at length why his way was definitely the best way. His proudest accomplishments, aside from the impressive array of grandchildren and great-grandchildren he raised with his beloved wife Sandra Lee (Pratt) Marker, were his relentless dedication to cutting Nabors’ grass when they were sick. Because nothing says “neighborly love” like wielding a lawnmower during tough times.

He is survived by his lovely wife of 59 years, Sandra Lee Marker, who presumably kept him in check and on time for all family gatherings. Alongside Sandra are his three children: Rita Marker of Hopedale, Regis “Joe” Jr. (Andrea) Marker of Hopedale, and Regina (Brad) Saho of Wintersville. The family circle extends to eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, ensuring that Regis’s legacy (and possibly his opinions) continue to thrive. His sister Marianne Virtue of Hopedale and brother-in-law Randy Pratt of Jewett also carry forward memories of his unique charm.

Regis was preceded in death by his parents, Frank F. Sr. and Agnes (Kish) Marker, four siblings Bernard, Fred, Frank, Patricia Marker, and his grandson Daniel Marker, each leaving a special place in his heart.

Though Regis may have been ornery and opinionated, those who knew him understood his loving nature and treasured his humor. He genuinely was “so funny” — often whether you wanted him to be or not. Rest in peace, Regis Joseph Marker. May your tables stay sturdy, your fishing lines stay tight, and may your stories live on louder than ever.
