Raymond Allen Drewett Sr., 83, born on July 7, 1942, in Wheeling, West Virginia, peacefully passed away at his home on March 18, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. His departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him, yet his legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion endures.
Raymond was a man who embodied dedication and resilience throughout his life. For 32 and a half years, he labored tirelessly as a coal miner, facing long hours that often included doubles and triples, determined to provide for his family through hard work and sacrifice. Later, he also contributed his skills at Blue Ribbon Paint in South Wheeling, always ready to do whatever was necessary to support those he cherished. A lifelong learner, Raymond took an interest in auto mechanics and generously passed on his knowledge to his children, teaching them everything he knew with patience and pride.
Known for his strength far beyond his years, Raymond was deeply loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a man of great heart, always willing to help those in need and uplift others with his presence. His playful spirit shone through in the joyous times he spent joking and sharing fun moments with his children — a testament to his belief in togetherness and family unity.
Beyond his professional and familial commitments, Raymond found simple pleasures in life’s quiet delights. He loved to work and fix things around the house, a testament to his practical nature and skillful hands. His fondness for watching and feeding birds and deer provided him moments of peace and connection with the natural world, reflecting a gentle soul hidden beneath his tough exterior.
Raymond faced his final years bravely, contending with declining health due to prostate and colon cancer, diabetes, and heart trouble. Despite these challenges, his spirit remained unbroken, leaning on the support and love of his family until the very end.
He is survived by his four beloved children: Raymond Allen Drewett Jr. of St. Clairsville, Ira (Lori) Drewett of Bridgeport, Hazel (Bruce) Virtue of Weirton, and Aaron Drewett of Barton. His legacy is carried on through numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will remember him as the strong, loving patriarch of their family. He also leaves behind one sister, Loretta Rice of East Rochester, Ohio, who shared in his journey throughout life.
Raymond was preceded in death by his dear parents, Ira David and Eillen Flossie (Plant) Drewett; his loving wife, Patricia Lou (Thrasher) Drewett; and two sisters, Marlene Hanke and Rosie Hyde. Their memories remain treasured in the hearts of those who mourn his passing.
A visitation to celebrate Raymond’s life will be held on March 23, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at New Beginning Church, located at 4296 Franklin Street in Bellaire, Ohio. The funeral service will follow at the same location from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., with Bishop Michael Toliver; offering friends and family the opportunity to honor his memory with words, reflections, and shared love. Finally, his remains will be laid to rest with dignity at Linwood Cemetery in Blaine, Ohio, beginning at 1:00 p.m., where he will find eternal peace.
Raymond Allen Drewett Sr.’s life was a testament to the power of steadfast love and hard work. Though he has departed, his spirit will forever inspire those who knew him—a reminder of the joy found in family, the strength of character, and the simple happiness of a life well-lived.
