Listen to Obituary

Ralph Patrick McGraw, lovingly known as “Pawpaw,” passed away of natural causes on October 29, 2026, at Trinity West. He was born on December 15, 1961, in Steubenville, Ohio.

Ralph will be remembered as a trustworthy man with a big teddy bear heart. He was ornery, full of dark humor, and stubborn, yet he was also very loving. He was known for his tight, squeezing hugs and for being a mama’s boy. The people who knew him best will remember the warmth he gave so freely and the strong personality that made him unforgettable.

He worked as a mechanic at Ken Davis Automotive. His work suited him well, and Ken was also his best friend. Ralph loved old cars and enjoyed watching Gotham Garage, going to car shows, and spending time around the kind of vehicles that always held his interest. He even had a 1966 Volkswagen Beetle, a detail that reflected his love for classic cars.

Ralph also enjoyed the things that brought him comfort and fun. He loved Star Trek, especially the original series, and all of the movies, and he was truly a super fan. He also loved watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy!, Judge Judy, and Let’s Make a Deal. These everyday enjoyments were part of the life he built and the memories his family will carry forward.

Among the things Ralph treasured most were his children and grandchildren, who were his proudest accomplishment. His family also holds close the loving words that reflected his heart and the affection he shared so openly: “I love my beautiful girl,” “I love you more daddy,” and “I love you first, you win.” Those simple, tender exchanges speak to the deep love that filled his life.

He is survived by his wife, Denise Carol Ann (Yates) McGraw; his daughter, Chrystal McGraw; his son, Jason McGraw; and his grandchildren, Alexis Michelle Lee Hilliard, Elijah Thomas Hilliard, Kisara Swartz, and Brielle Swartz. He is also survived by his brothers, James McGraw of Steubenville, Everett Lee McGraw of Steubenville, and Fred McGraw of Dover, Ohio, along with many nieces and nephews. His family was the center of his life, and his love for them was clear in both word and deed.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Gerald McGraw and Virginia Lee (Cosner) McGraw.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and remembered with affection for his humor, his hugs, his loyalty, and the love he gave his family.
