Mary "Honey" E. Elmore, a beloved daughter of Weirton, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, at the Weirton Geriatric Center after years of complications with diabetes. Born on May 13, 1956, Mary “Honey” lived a life filled with love, resilience, and joy, leaving behind a legacy cherished by family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know her.
A proud 1974 graduate of Weir High School, Mary further enriched her life through education, earning an Associate's degree in accounting from West Virginia Northern Community College-an achievement she held with deep pride. Her keen intellect and remarkable memory enabled her to recall and recount stories from authors such as Stephen King and James Patterson, captivating her family time and again with vivid retellings.
Honey's career was marked by her role as a prep cook at the Holiday Inn, where she was celebrated for her culinary skills. Those who shared meals she prepared will fondly remember the love and care she infused into her cooking. An enduring memory among loved ones includes many cherished picnics at the shelter on Weir Avenue, where she grilled and sold countless dinners, embodying her fun-loving spirit and strong character.
Her passions extended beyond the kitchen; Honey was captivated by westerns like Gunsmoke and enjoyed lively games of bingo with friends at the firehouse. Her interests also included forensics and audio books, reflecting a curious and vibrant mind. Above all, she was a person of unwavering faith who deeply loved the Lord and found strength in her beliefs.
Those who knew Honey best describe her as a strong and compassionate woman who brought light and encouragement to those around her. If she saw someone downhearted, she would lift their spirits with kindness and warmth.
Honey is survived by eight devoted siblings: Robert McShann of Dayton, OH; Malcolm (Phyllis) Elmore of Portsmouth, VA; Lynwood Elmore of Detroit, MI; Kelvin H. (Tammy) Elmore of Weirton; Tracy Luke of Auburn Hills, MI; Craig (Juanita) Elmore of Steubenville; Kelli Elmore of Weirton; and Floyd Cochrane of Steubenville. She is also remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews who continue to honor her memory.
She was preceded in death by her cherished parents, Henry Louis and Ruby Kathryn (Cochran) Elmore; her paternal grandparents, David and Valene Elmore; her maternal grandparents, John and Mary Cochran; and two sisters, Kathryn McShann and infant sister Rosalie McShann.
The Elmore family would like to thank the staff at Weirton Geriatric Center and The DaVita’s Dialysis Center in Paris Pennsylvania for taking care of our beloved one for 16 years.
Visitation will be held on May 8, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Apostolic Faith Church Weirton, located at 3000 Weir Avenue, Weirton, WV 26062. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Darrell W. Cummings celebrant.
