Lois Elaine Achhammer, 80, lovingly known as "Toots," passed away unexpectedly on November 29, 2025, at Trinity West in Steubenville, Ohio. Born in Annapolis, Ohio, on March 5, 1945, Lois was a proud graduate of Springfield High School, and throughout her life, she dedicated herself to both her family and her profession.
Lois had a remarkable career as an EMT at the Stratton, Ohio Sammis Plant, as well as at Lowe's in Steubenville. Her commitment to helping others was evident in her work, making her one of the original members of the Wintersville Emergency Medical Services—a testament to her dedication and service to her community.
In addition to her professional contributions, Lois was cherished for her nurturing spirit and the love she extended to her family and friends. She always made herself available to those she cared about, earning her the affectionate title of "mom" from many in her life. Lois had a passion for sewing and quilting, creating beautiful items including her "Amazing Grace" pillowcases. Her home was filled with the warmth of her craft and the spirit of family gatherings, particularly around the holidays, she was also a member of the Wintersville Baptist Temple.
Lois is survived by her three children, Michael Herbert Achhammer III of Wintersville, Russell Achhammer (Brenda Kugler) of Wintersville, and Diana Clark (Bob Majewski) of Steubenville. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Amanda Achhammer (Andrew Cullen) of New Alexandria, Melinda Achhammer of Toronto, Kirsten Clark of Steubenville, Ellie Clark of Steubenville, and her great-grandchildren, Dejah Achhammer of New Alexandria and Cameron Corona of Wintersville. She is also survived by her sister, Deloris (Arch Wimpy) Smuck of Annapolis, Ohio, and her brother, Joe Woods of Sabina, Ohio.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Michael "Herb" Herbert Achhammer Jr.; her brother, John Woods; and her sister, Nancy Tubaugh.
Her spirit and legacy will be honored on December 15, 2025, with a visitation at Schuetz Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 6:00 PM. with Pastor Troy Thacker officiating The family invites all who knew and loved Lois to join in celebrating her life and the profound impact she made on all around her.
