Lewis Lee Johnson

Lewis Lee Johnson, 78,  a beloved figure defined by his humor and warmth, gracefully departed from this world on February 21, 2026, in Trinity West, leaving behind a rich tapestry of memories and love. Born on March 20, 1947, in the serene embrace of Colerain Township, he lived a life full of laughter, adventure, and dedication.

Lewis was not only known as a skilled weaver in North Carolina but also cherished for his ability to light up a room with his comedic spirit. A proud Vietnam veteran who proudly served in the Army, he embodied resilience and camaraderie. His unwavering support and love for his family were evident in every fiber of his being, especially in the cherished moments spent fishing for catfish at Tappen Lake, where peace and patience reigned.

In recounting the tales of his adventurous escapades, one cannot overlook the humorous incident involving his brief dalliance with jail—an episode that spoke volumes of his spirited nature and indomitable will. After a deputy's firm declaration that "no one escapes from my jail," Lewis, along with two companions, made a swift exit that night, demonstrating the same boldness that characterized his life choices.

As a family man, he took immense pride in the accomplishments of his two daughters, Susan McCullough and Cynthia Morris, and their families, including the joy of being a great-grandfather. His legacy continues to thrive in the hearts of Russell Lee Carpenter, Carrie Ann Carpenter, Krista Noell Pyles, John Edward Pyles Jr., and the generation of love that follows.

While Lewis navigated life with a penchant for deer hunting and fishing, he also possessed an uncanny ability to read the weather, often offering his friends and family invaluable insights about what lay ahead. His deep-rooted connections to his family and friends are a testament to the solid foundation he built throughout his life.

Lewis is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Edward and Viola Virginia (Dayton) Johnson, and his half-brother Engel Malone Dayton. His journey across this earthly realm will forever be remembered alongside the cherished lives of family members including Harriet Elizabeth Moore, Clarence Leroy Johnson, Robert “Bob” Eugene Johnson, Ronald Edward Johnson, and N.N. "Snoop," alongside his five grandchildren—Michael, Samantha, Sandra, Tyler Gibben, and Issiah White—who carry forward the essence of his spirit.

Though Lewis battled ongoing health issues in his final days, the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those who knew him remains a beacon of joy and love. As we bid farewell to a true comedian, a loving father, a devoted soldier, and a steadfast friend, we remember Lewis Lee Johnson not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the laughter and memories that will forever resonate in our lives.
