John Allen Raymond, 81, affectionately known as "Big John," passed away unexpectedly on April 10, 2026, at Trinity West ER. Born on October 27, 1944, in Steubenville, Ohio, he lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love for his family and community.

A 1962 graduate of Wintersville High School, John furthered his education by earning an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Kent State University. He also proudly graduated as a member of the Ohio State Patrol’s 85th Graduating Class, a distinction that shaped much of his professional life and personal pride.

John devoted ten years to serving as a Police Officer with the Ohio State Patrol, an accomplishment he held in the highest regard. Following this, he committed himself to Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel in Mingo Junction from 1979 until 2005, simultaneously holding the position of Police Captain in Cross Creek Township. Throughout his career, John was known for his hard work, honor, and respectability, qualities that earned him admiration not only from colleagues but also from the many children and community members whose lives he touched. His protective nature was evident in everyday moments, such as the time he told neighborhood children, who were cutting weeds with a weed whacker, to stop—and ended up with a long thorny weed wrapped around his bare chest—a testament to his willingness to stand guard for those around him.

In addition to his professional achievements, John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a role he cherished deeply. He was a "great dad, husband, friend," and a larger-than-life presence who took everyone under his wing, especially the kids from around the area. His unwavering support and love for his children were a constant throughout his life.

John’s interests reflected his vibrant personality. He enjoyed following Mingo High School Football, hunting, cheering for the Steelers, playing on his phone, and keeping close connection with his children through the Life 360 app.

John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Linda Kay Raymond, and their family: Vicki (Ben) White of Adena, John A. Raymond Jr. of Mingo Junction, William "Bill" M. Raymond also of Mingo Junction; as well as ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and a strong family bond.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Wilson and Lily Mae (Trimmer) Raymond, and four siblings: Doris M. Sargent, William Raymond, James L. Raymond, and Frances J. Clark. In addition to his blood relatives, John and his family were guardians to John Michael McFall.

John Allen Raymond’s life was one defined by integrity, commitment, and an unyielding devotion to those he loved and served. He will be remembered as a good man, a respected officer, a steadfast family man, and a cherished friend. His memory will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
