It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Pete Pahides, born on October 5, 1978, in Steubenville, Ohio, and who left us unexpectedly from natural causes on April 3, 2026, at U.P.M.C. Presby. James’s journey was one marked by resilience, kindness, and a spirit that touched everyone who knew him.
James, affectionately known as "Bone's" because of his slender frame, was a man who carried the vibrant energy of 80s rock and roll within him. A walking trivia master with an unbeatable knowledge of sports, movies, and music, he brought joy and laughter to friends and family alike. A passionate fan of the Green Bay Packers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Penguins, his love extended beyond sports to the realms of horror movies, wrestling, and sci-fi. This broad tapestry of interests painted a picture of a man deeply engaged with the world he cherished.
His educational years were spent at the Ohio School in Columbus for the Blind, where he was not only the beloved team mascot but also a dedicated member of the swim team. James carried his enthusiasm and support for others into his career as a dishwasher at Franciscan University, where he remained a quiet yet essential presence. Those who knew James remember his willingness to help anyone in need and his boundless kindness. Family memories glow warmly with tales like the time they went to WWE RAW in Pittsburgh and James wore a Becky Lynch red hair wig, a testament to his playful and loving nature.
James's proudest accomplishments included his remarkable movie collection, a treasure trove reflecting his passion and keen eye for storytelling. His life was also filled with meaningful relationships. He was preceded in death by Steve Pahides, Millie (Weatherhead) Pahides, Rosa Lee (Pain) Stone—who was like a mother to James—and his sister Rebecca DeVore. Their memories live on in his heart.
James is survived by those who loved and cared for him deeply: his caretakers Billy and Katie Tompkins of Mingo Junction; his brother Josh and Elizabeth Nicholes of Wheeling; his sister Laura Johnston of Bergholz; and cousins John P. Stout of Brilliant, Ami “Jo” and Jesse Cline of Toronto, Ohio; Alishia and Michael Haines of Brilliant; and Hope McFadden of Martins Ferry. Each of these individuals carries forward a part of James’s light and spirit.
Visitation will be held on April 11, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Schuetz Funeral Home, located at 235 Clifton Ave., Mingo Junction, Ohio. The funeral service will be from at 5 p.m. with Rev. Craig Smith. These gatherings will be a time to honor James's memory, celebrate his unique life, and find comfort in one another's presence.
As we remember James Pete Pahides, we hold close the warmth of his kindness, his unwavering willingness to help, and the sparkle of joy that illuminated every room he entered. His legacy is one of love, gentle strength, and an enduring connection to all who knew him. Though he is gone, James’s spirit will forever echo in the hearts of his family, friends, and all touched by his life.
