James C Moniodis

Wintersville, OH

Listen to Obituary

Jim C Moniodis, a man who could paint a house faster than you could say "wet paint" and who ran Walmart like he was the CEO of aisle seven, passed away on May 30, 2026, at Valley Hospice Care Center North after a lengthy illness. Born in Steubenville, OH, on June 2, 1945, Jim was quite the character—a true people person who made friends faster than a slot machine hits a jackpot.

A proud graduate of Big Red High School, Class of 1963, Jim must have learned some great life lessons there because he served six years in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer aboard the USS Dewey DLG 14—the first guided missile destroyer, no less. You know, because being on a ship with fancy missiles clearly prepared him for the thrilling adventures of painting and managing inventory at Walmart.

Jim's 40-year career as a union painter saw him working his magic canvassing walls from Florida to Cincinnati, proving that he could handle both the heat of the sun and the chill of a paint bucket without breaking a sweat. Later in life, when he wasn't keeping shelves stocked or walls colorful, he was a homebody who found deep philosophical meaning in watching cars go by—probably plotting his next Harley ride or how to beat the slot machines.

Speaking of which, Jim loved to gamble and was known to try his luck on slot machines, though unlike those slots, his humor never lost a payout. His Harley Davidson was clearly one of his proudest accomplishments, riding through life with the wind in his hair and a mischievous grin that always told you he was up to something fun. And let’s not forget his beloved fur babies, Jasper "Jazzy" and Sissy, who likely kept the house lively even when Jim was just sitting back watching the neighborhood traffic.

Jim had a knack for stirring up fun—he’d start the shenanigans and leave his brother Nick to finish the job, which probably explains a lot about their legendary sibling antics. Speaking of family, he leaves behind his loving wife of nine years, Sandra Veleda Loppe, his brother Nick (and sister-in-law Debbie) of Follansbee, and of course those two fabulous dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. "Grumpy" Moniodis Sr. and Olga (Karas) Cebula, brother John Cebula, and sisters Tina Hitt and Cathy (Jim) Ritter—clearly, the family reunions are less wild now without him to start the fun.

Jim was more than just a great uncle and dog lover; he was a man who brought laughter, color, and a bit of vibrancy wherever he went. We can only imagine him now pioneering naval skies, riding his Harley around the clouds, and probably starting some celestial mischief while his brother finishes it off.

Goodbye, Jim, and thanks for all the fun times, the painted walls, and the unforgettable rides. Heaven just scored its newest slot machine champion.
