James P. Lucas, affectionately known to many as “Uncle Jim,” passed away on July 11, 2026, after a long illness. Born on January 30, 1949, James led a distinguished life defined by both dedicated service and heartfelt generosity.
A proud graduate of Penn Hills High School, James went on to serve his country with honor. He spent two years in the United States Army, where he distinguished himself as a member of the Airborne, a sharpshooter, and Military Police. His commitment to service and disciplined nature were evident throughout his life.
Professionally, James built a respected career as a Computer Aided Draftsman with Louis Berkman/Follansbee Dock Systems. Through his technical expertise, he contributed to important projects and became valued among his colleagues for his precision, work ethic, and reliability.
James’s dedication extended well beyond his professional life. He possessed a genuine love for motorcycles and was proud to be associated with WV ABATE (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education), a testament to his commitment to both education and the biking community. He brought energy and camaraderie to his golf league, excelled in darts, and enjoyed the adventure and discovery found in yard sales, often with family and friends.
Known for his willingness to help anyone in need, James was a steadfast presence for those around him. His acts of kindness, big and small, leave an enduring legacy.
Preceded in death by his parents Robert James and Mary Lois (Schneider) Lucas, and his daughter Melissa Lucas.
He is survived by one son James A Lucas of Beech Bottom, WV, one sister Jean (John) Kearns of Cabot, PA, nieces Michelle Kendall of Follansbee, Jennifer Glass Weirton, Judi Corn of Weirton, Natalie (John) Bird of Springdale, PA, A Host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and greats.
James’s memory will remain alive in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy of service, compassion, and camaraderie sets a standard for all who follow.
