Gregory "Gregg" Scott Blake, 63, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on April 3, 2026, at Valley Hospice (Liza's Place) after a very lengthy illness. Born on January 10, 1963, in Bellaire, Ohio, Gregg lived a life marked by dedication, joy, and an unwavering love for his family and passions.
A proud graduate of Cadiz High School, Class of 1981, Gregg forged a hardworking path, spending many years as a coal miner in several mines throughout the area. Despite the challenging nature of his work, he remained a happy, good-natured man whose warmth and good spirits touched everyone around him.
Gregg’s love of life was evident in his many hobbies and interests. He delighted in riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing, and was known to enjoy watching his favorite Alaskan shows. One of his fondest memories was taking vacations to the beach, with Lake Erie holding a special place in his heart. These moments of joy reflected the man he was—filled with a zest for life and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures it offers.
More than anything else, Gregg’s proudest accomplishments were his children and grandchildren, who formed the center of his universe. He is survived by his loving wife of eleven years, Dawn Marie (Aubrey) Blake, who stood steadfastly by his side. Together, they shared a family rich with love and devotion that extended through his six children: Gregory P. (Lacy) Blake of Wheeling, Alex M. Blake of Adena, Samuel L. (Tiffany) Blake of Adena, Rachelle C. (Jack Elerick) Robinson of Martins Ferry, Bryce M. Coleman of Martins Ferry, and Malyah L. Coleman (Lexie Lopez) of St. Clairsville. His legacy continues brightly through his grandchildren Clive, Vinnie, Asher, Samantha, Xavier Blake, Ruckus “Neighbor Boy,” and Aliyah “Hurricane,” who will carry forward the light he brought into their lives.
Gregg’s circle of family and friends was a testament to the man he was. He is fondly remembered by his siblings Linda Blake (Herman Sasak), Buzz (Diane) Blake, Jeff (Maryjane) Blake, and Brent (Robin) Blake, as well as his sister-in-law Brandi Aubrey of Martins Ferry. His loyal pets—Bart, Chewy, and Pooh—were constant companions, reflecting the kindness that was at his core. Special cousins, Pastor Roy Gatts and Pastor Ty Gatts, offered Gregg comforting conversations, prayers, and unwavering support that meant so much during his illness. Numerous nieces and nephews also remember his love and the warmth he radiated.
Gregg was preceded in death by his parents, Marion L. and Ila J. (Gatts) Blake, and two sisters, Cindy and Brenda Blake. Their memories live on in the stories shared and the indelible mark he left on all who knew him.
Gregg "Gregg" Blake's journey through life was one of joy, resilience, and boundless love. Though his departure leaves a profound void, the impact of his spirit—his laughter, his passions, and above all, his devotion to family—will forever be cherished. His presence was a gift to those lucky enough to know him, and his memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who loved him. Rest peacefully, Gregg, knowing you were deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
