Gaye P. Brennan, a woman known for her boundless social spirit, quick wit, and infectious laughter, passed away peacefully due to old age on June 5, 2026, in Weirton, West Virginia. Born Gaye Palmateer on July 26, 1938, in Lansingburgh, New York, she was a shining star from the start—graduating Magna Cum Laude from Lansingburgh High School at the tender age of 16 in 1955. If anyone could make genius look effortless, it was Gaye.
Early in her career, she soared the skies as a stewardess for Mohawk Airlines, charming passengers with her warmth and humor. Not one to rest on her laurels, in her 60s she reinvented herself as an entrepreneur, launching a consignment boutique that quickly became a local favorite. But don’t imagine Gaye slowing down—her social calendar was always fuller than a game show contestant’s wish list, with her charitable work and serving as Treasurer of the Bever United Methodist Church in Beaver, Pennsylvania.
A dynamo with a sewing needle, Gaye was deeply involved in the quilting community in Ossipee, New Hampshire. She was a member of three quilting guilds, including the founding Library Group, and had the honor of serving as past president of the Ladies of the Lake. Her skills earned her numerous quilting awards, which she valued almost as much as her proudest accomplishments: her children and grandchildren.
Speaking of family, Gaye’s greatest joy was supporting her daughters in every pursuit imaginable—whether they were taking on life’s challenges or chasing their dreams. She is survived by her three beloved children: Diane Brennan of Weirton, West Virginia; Rebecca Brennan and Karen Brennan, both of Rochester, New Hampshire. The family tree blossoms further with four grandchildren—Lewis B. Yeager III (partner Lauren Glinko) and Steven J. Yeager (partner Kristen), both of Pennsylvania; Cassidy Crawford (partner Sam) of Florida; and Corrina Brennan of New Hampshire. Great-grandchildren Levi and Addison Yeager also carry forward Gaye’s legacy, no doubt inheriting her charm and tenacity.
Gaye was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James A. Brennan Jr., a steadfast partner in all her adventures; her parents Austin and Laura (Bell) Palmateer; brother Harold Palmateer; and half-brother James Scott.
Always ready with a joke, a friendly smile, or an enthusiastic “Have you seen the latest episode on HGTV or the Antique Road Show?” Gaye’s vibrant personality lit up every room she entered. Her love of game shows was legendary friends joked that if humor was an Olympic sport, she’d have a gold medal shelf rivaling her quilting trophies.
A member of the Rochester New Hampshire Historical Society and United Methodist Church, Gaye believed life was about stitching together memories in a quilt of friendship, faith, and fun. She leaves behind a vibrant patchwork of cherished moments and an unmatched legacy of love.
Friends and family will remember her as vivacious, warm, and endlessly supportive—a woman who truly embodied a joy for life. Gaye P. Brennan, you were loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know you. Your stories, laughter, and impeccable taste in television will live on. Rest well, dear Gaye. The road show up there just got a little more interesting. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family. A Crowd Funding page has been set up below.
