Gary Victor Dunn, affectionately known as “Mr. GD,” passed away at Wheeling Hospital on June 28, 2026, at the age of 71, following complications involving his liver and lungs. Born on July 31, 1954, in Wheeling, WV, Gary’s life journey was rooted in the community that welcomed him into the world and embraced him throughout his days.
Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, leaving behind a family whose lives are illuminated by his enduring love and steadfast support. He is survived by his devoted spouse, Debra Hugus; his daughters, Jennifer Knight, Amy Dunn, Mari Dunn, and Rachel Bridgeport; and a large, cherished group of grandchildren: Skyler, Daijah, Caysen, Davonte, Tylar, Nico, Nova, Jameson, Asher, Marko, Aaliyah, and Herman. His guiding presence will be deeply missed by his sisters, Victoria Dunn and Carrie Dunn, and his brother, Thomas Dunn, as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins whose memories with him span years of family gatherings and unending affection.
Gary’s family finds comfort in knowing that he is reunited with loved ones who preceded him in death; his father, James Dunn, and mother, Helen Dunn, provided him with the foundation of love and family that he carried forward. He was also preceded in passing by his sister, Susan Jessie; his brothers, David Dunn and Franklin Dunn; and his dear relatives Suzonne Gray and Susan Jessie. The echoes of their shared moments and lasting bonds remain in the hearts of all who remember him.
Throughout his life, Gary touched many with his warmth, loyalty, and unmistakable sense of humor. He was a source of steady support for his family, nurturing and guiding his children and grandchildren with an open heart. Family connections—both immediate and extended—remained central to his purpose, and his legacy lives on in the stories, laughter, and lessons he imparted.
Even as we mourn the immense loss of Gary Victor Dunn, we remember his resilience, generosity, and kindness. His memory endures in the love he fostered and the many lives he influenced. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to share in his journey.
