Frederick "Fred" D. Connors of Wheeling passed on Saturday, July 2, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 11, 1946 in Wheeling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward R. and Gladys Hanlin Connors, and his brother, Edward R. (Eddie Ray) Connors, and stepfather John P. Ponti.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Kennedy Connors. Two sons, Frederick Dean Connors II of Rayland, OH (best friend Susan Regrut), Scott (best friend Deni Moore) of Wheeling; a daughter, Joelle (Stefan) Moray of Wheeling; two step-daughters, Lisa (Tim) Monroe of West Liberty; Lori (Eric) West of Stafford, VA; Seven grandchildren, Dr. Alexa Connors, Kaylee, Gillian, Sophia, Adam, Parker and Sloane, six step-grandchildren, Chelsi (RJ) Comer and TJ Monroe, Savhanna and Sydney West, Justin and Jackson Mehl; four step-great grandchildren, Ayden, Aaliyah, Adriana, and Walker. And his loving brother, Tom (Loretta) Simmons of Tiltonsville, OH.

Work history includes Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C., Third Class Petty Officer U.S. Navy, City Editor of the Martins Ferry Times-Leader, 17 years at Weirton Steel, Self Employed, Courts, Crime, and Investigative reporter for the Wheeling newspapers.

Held multiple journalism awards from the West Virginia Press Association. And Southern Newspapers Publishing Association. Editors submitted one of his works for Pulitzer Prize consideration.

Founder of Ohio Valley Cold Case Task Force and of Ohio Valley Writer’s Group. Founding member of Wheeling Toastmasters Club.

Interment at the convenience of the family in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies,

Bridgeville, Pa with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice, especially Valley Hospice, Visiting Angels, and Liza’s Place.
