Listen to Obituary

Edwin "ED" Edward Swegard, 65, a beloved mechanic and transmission specialist whose hands and heart touched many lives, passed away unexpectedly at home on March 23, 2026. Born on December 19, 1960, in Bellaire, Ohio, Ed’s life was marked by a warmth and authenticity that left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

A proud graduate of River High School, Class of 1978, Ed dedicated his career to his craft, working with steadfast dedication at Swegards Used Auto Parts, Aamco Transmission, and Bob’s Transmission. His expertise and commitment to quality work were renowned, but it was his kindness and unwavering respect for others that truly defined him.

Ed’s personality was a tapestry of laughter, stories, and a willingness to embrace life’s moments—wild, funny, and sometimes those that “shouldn’t have happened,” yet all cherished deeply. Whether it was the shared joy of a good joke or the comfort found in the quiet outdoors, Ed’s spirit was one that encouraged those around him to live more freely and joyfully. He loved spending weekends at camp, tending to his garden, and mowing the grass, not just as chores but as moments to slow down, breathe fresh air, and create treasured memories with the people he loved most.

His greatest love lay with his family, especially his grandson Steven, whose affection for him as "Pap" brought Ed immense joy. The bond they shared was a beacon of love and pride in Ed’s life—a legacy that will live on in the hearts of his family forever.

Ed was a man who never spoke much about being unapologetically himself; he simply lived that truth, giving permission to others to laugh louder, loosen up, and cherish life’s imperfections. His love for Bud Light, his spirited teasing of his children, and his intolerance for good behavior all painted the vivid picture of a man who cherished connection and honesty.

Ed’s family surrounds his memory with love and respect. He is survived by his mother, Nancy Ann (Hess) Walker of Ravenna, Ohio; his devoted wife of nine years, Cynthia "Cindy" (Littleton) Swegard; her grandson whom they raised, Steven Swegard; his four children—Eddie Swegard of Michigan, Justin (Kristen) Swegard, Kassandra Swegard of Michigan, and Kayla (John) Sarcopski of Moundsville; his grandchildren—Tylon, Lizzie, Justin, Katie, Larissa, Mae; as well as siblings Patricia (Roger) Stillion of Shadyside; Theresa Stillion of Powhatan,  Don Swegard Jr. of Powhatan, Rose (John) Oblisk of Ravenna, and stepmother Mary Swegard, along with numerous nieces and nephews who all hold him dear.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald W. Swegard Sr., and stepson Richie Burch.

A visitation will be held on Thursday March 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Michelle Lucarelli officiant at Amity United Methodist Church in Powhatan Point, Ohio. This gathering will be a time for friends and family to celebrate Ed’s life, share stories, and honor a man who truly lived with an open heart.

In the fabric of those who knew him, Ed Swegard’s kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit will always be remembered and cherished. His legacy is one of laughter, love, and a life well-lived, creating memories that will forever warm the hearts of all who loved him.

Until we meet again, Ed—love Ya Cindy.
