Edward Lynn Marling, 81, a dedicated public servant and respected community leader, passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 27, 2026, following a brief illness. Born on November 10, 1944, in Bellaire, Ohio, Lynn’s life was marked by a steadfast devotion to his family, community, and a career reflecting both versatility and commitment.
A graduate of Shadyside High School’s Class of 1963, Lynn began his professional journey at the AEP Kammer Plant, where he operated bulldozers and achieved certification as a licensed tow boat captain. Demonstrating entrepreneurial spirit, he owned and operated the Shadyside Village Dairy Bar, further cementing his ties to the local community.
Lynn’s dedication to public service spanned over three decades. He served on the Shadyside Village Council from 1986 to 1996 before becoming Mayor of Shadyside, a role he held for ten years until 2006. Subsequently, he relocated to Bellaire, where his leadership qualities were recognized once again when he became the first write-in candidate to win office, serving from January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2025. A notable aspect of his tenure in Bellaire was his close working relationship with Mary Louise “Weezie” Hagiloiszou, his secretary and clerk of courts, whom he affectionately referred to as his “Special Daughter.”
Lynn was known for his straightforward nature; he communicated his opinions candidly yet maintained a gentle kindness at his core. His personal interests reflected a vibrant character – he was an avid NASCAR follower, enjoyed watching cooking and hunting programs on television, and delighted in Cowheard’s Daily Sport Show. Fond memories cherished by his family include long weekend car rides that could extend up to 300 miles, visits to Quinets Restaurant, and savoring maple ice cream soft serve from Smig’s.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 12 years, Sandra K. (Trigg) Marling; his daughter, Tina Marie (Jeffrey) Lipscomb of Delta Junction, Alaska; and his stepdaughter, Stephanie (Joe) Dvorak of Shadyside, Ohio. Lynn’s legacy continues through his five grandchildren: Jessica (Tamica) Lipscomb, Jeffrey (Christina) Lipscomb, and Justina Lipscomb, all residing in Alaska; Savanna Perkins of Columbus, Ohio; and Lexi Antill of Shadyside, Ohio. Additionally, he cherished his two great-grandchildren, Penelope and Gideon Lipscomb of Alaska. Lynn’s family circle also includes his three sisters: Karen (Rich) Stack and Pam Moore, both of Jacobsburg, and Georgina Carpino of Shadyside.
He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Marling; his parents, Albert Russel and Edith James (Hiexenbaugh); his sisters Emma L. Martling and Beth Ann Marling; and his brothers Jerry, William, Russell, Robert, and Richard “Rick” Marling.
Edward Lynn Marling’s life was characterized by steadfast devotion to community and family, a heritage of public service, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. His contributions and leadership have left an enduring imprint on the communities of Shadyside and Bellaire. The memory of Lynn’s dedication, warmth, and spirited character will be deeply cherished by all who had the privilege to know him. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
