Steubenville, OH

Listen to Obituary

Dorothy Virginia Sharp, a woman who truly knew how to leave a mark, graced the world with her presence from December 16, 1953, until her untimely and tragic passing on June 7, 2026. Born in the humble environs of Steubenville, OH, Dorothy was never one to settle for ordinary—she carved out a life filled with vibrant passions and unmistakable zest, embodying what it means to be a true queen of excitement.

Her career may have been cleaning for Wells and Son Janitor Services, but let’s be clear—Dorothy was so much more than a mere employee. She was a whirlwind of energy, known for her fun-loving spirit and her unapologetic, own-brand Karen personality that, believe it or not, endeared her to many. From the moment you met her, you knew you were in the presence of someone extraordinary—someone who could light up a room as easily as she could wield her beloved knives or strum her guitar with flair.

Dorothy was not just a sister; she was the epitome of sibling love and loyalty. Her early years might have been "a little crazy," but that unpredictability only added to the legend she became. She didn’t just dabble in hobbies—she conquered them. Whether she was drinking, shooting pool, smoking, or enjoying church with her family, Dorothy did it all with unparalleled passion and style. Friends and family alike remember her fondly for her excitement and lively nature, and it’s impossible not to recall the charm she oozed when talking about her dreams, including her once-aspired chance to sing for the Nashville Opera—because why aim low when you can dream big, right?

A proud mother, Dorothy’s greatest accomplishments were her children, and nothing brought her more joy than the legacy she built through her daughter, Trish Dye of Wyoming. She leaves behind not only Trish but also a vibrant family of siblings who continue to carry her spirit forward: one brother, Orville L. (ELWanda) Wise Jr. of Scio, and three sisters—Carol M. Snyder of Rayland, Deborah Faye Weaver of Dillonvale, and Rose Norris of Wintersville—along with numerous nieces and nephews who cherished her larger-than-life presence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville L. and Sophie (Nation) Wise, and two sisters, Patricia Margaret Brown and “Lorna” Sophie Hanna Hersey, securing her place among the family’s unforgettable legends.

Dorothy’s life ended tragically due to an accidental fire.  She passed away at Valley Hospice Care Center North, but the flame of her spirit burns brighter than ever. Anyone fortunate enough to know her will remember the gleam in her eye, the warmth of her smile, and the relentless enthusiasm she radiated. She was, without a doubt, her own brightest star in a sky full of ordinary lights.

Those wishing to say their final goodbyes to this unforgettable woman may do so at Schuetz Funeral Home, 235 Clifton Ave., Mingo Junction, OH 43938, on June 14, 2026. The visitation runs from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed immediately by a memorial service from 5:00 PM with Pastor Phil Bliss. Because a star like Dorothy deserves a stage until the very end.

Dorothy Virginia Sharp wasn’t just a woman; she was an experience. She challenged norms, embraced life’s wild side, and never, ever asked for your approval—because, frankly, she didn’t need it. Her legacy? A testament to living life loudly, fully, and unapologetically on one’s own terms. The world was lucky to have her, and oh, how she knew it. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
