Donald Gene Midcap,65, affectionately known as D.J., passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on April 24, 2026, at Wheeling Hospital. Born on August 24, 1960, Don's life was marked by his dedication to his work, his family, and his varied interests that brought joy to those who knew him.
A proud graduate of John Marshall High School, Don chose a career as an over-the-road truck driver, hauling freight across vast distances. Through this profession, he not only demonstrated his commitment and reliability but also fostered an adventurous spirit that extended into his personal life. Don was a fun-loving individual who cherished laughter and the joy of sharing moments with others.
Beyond his professional life, Don was known for his survivalist skills and his passion for traveling. His hobbies reflected a man of varied talents and interests: an avid shooter and gun enthusiast, he enjoyed target shooting and was also skilled in working on cars. Notably, Don was a writer of short fiction, particularly focusing on westerns, revealing a creative side that beautifully complemented his rugged lifestyle.
Family held a special place in Don's heart. He took great pride in teaching his daughter, Beth, how to drive and how to handle firearms safely, creating memories that she and others will cherish forever. His generosity extended beyond his immediate family, always willing to help whoever asked.
Don is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Christopher) Tober of Steubenville, Ohio, and a cousin who was more like a brother to him, John Divittis of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Donald Harold and Eileen (Hercules) Midcap, and his brother, Cliff Midcap.
Known to many as D.J., Donald Gene Midcap will be remembered as a warm, fun-loving man whose laughter, teachings, and kindness impacted the lives of those around him. His legacy endures in the stories he wrote, the skills he imparted, and the love he freely gave. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
