Donald Joseph Hamann Jr., 72, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away too soon on December 26, 2025, at Country Club Manor. Born on June 7, 1953, in Steubenville, Ohio, Donald lived a life rich with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to family.
Throughout his career, he devoted many years of his life to the Jefferson Metropolitan Housing Authority (JMHA), serving his community with a sense of purpose and dedication. He was a high school graduate, but his true education came from the experiences and memories he built with those around him.
Donald was known for his kind and welcoming demeanor, traits that drew people towards him like a warm fire on a cold winter night. He cherished spending time with his family, especially during the holidays, where laughter and stories filled the air. These gatherings will forever remain etched in the hearts of his loved ones, echoing the warmth he brought into their lives.
Donald had a rich tapestry of interests that included watching football, particularly his cherished Steelers. Earlier in life, he played guitar and possessed a talent for drawing, displaying an artistic side that resonated with those who knew him. His hobbies reflected his spirited personality and marked his life with joy and creativity.
He leaves behind three loving children: Sue (Mac) McLean of Wintersville, Kathy (Andy) Nicol of Myrtle Beach, and Jennifer Hamann of Follansbee. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Valerie (Okey) Howard of Mingo Junction, Emalee (Zack) Todd of New York, Christian (Ash) Kerr of Columbus, Miranda (Tyler) Whitfield and Morgan Nicol (David), both of Myrtle Beach, as well as Nate Nicol of Myrtle Beach, Abigail Kerns of Follansbee, and Adam Khalifa of Follansbee. The light of his life shines even brighter through his great-grandchildren: Logan, Grayson, Gage, Axel, William, Aubry, Juniper, Bradley, Sierra, M.J., A.J., Vera Bella, Emilianna, Charlotte, Daphne, Colton, and L.J.
He is also survived by his siblings, Steven Hamann and Margaret Guzzardo, who will carry forward his memory in their hearts. Special friends, including Debbie (Bob) Wilt of Rayland, were part of his life’s journey, supporting him with unconditional friendship.
Donald is reunited in spirit with those who preceded him in death: his loving wife, Betsy Ann (Kasper) Hamann; his son, Donald Joseph Hamann III; his brothers Dennis, Danny, and David Hamann; and his sister, Elizabeth Josephine Hamann.
Today, we remember Donald Joseph Hamann Jr. not just for the years he filled with his presence, but for the love he shared and the memories he created. May his kind spirit and welcoming heart continue to inspire all who were lucky enough to know him. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
