Debra Sue Soles, born Debra Sue (Carroll), passed away on October 23, 2026, at U.P.M.C. Presby. She was born on February 7, 1959, in Glen Dale, West Virginia, and lived a life that was full of spirit, candor, devotion to family, and a sense of humor all her own.

Debra was fun-loving and memorable in every way. She had the energy of a teenager in an adult body, and the people around her knew they could always count on her to be outspoken, stern when she needed to be, and stubborn in a way that was simply part of her charm. Everyone loved her for being exactly who she was. She had a look that said everything before a word was ever spoken, one of those expressions family and friends will remember instantly and forever.

She worked for many years as a Nurses Aid with McGraw in Adena, Ohio. Later, she devoted herself to her home and family, spending 47 years with her late husband, James Norman Soles Sr. In addition to the many roles she carried through the years, she also worked as a Door Dashing driver. No matter the season of life, Debra stayed busy and stayed connected to the people she loved.

Her greatest pride was her children and grandchildren, and much of her happiest time was spent with her grandkids. She enjoyed mobile games, tending to her garden, and caring for her dog, Otis, along with her four ducks. She loved Roosters so much that even her ringtone reflected it, a detail that fit her playful personality perfectly. Back in the day, she was more excited to get on roller coasters than her kids were, a memory that says so much about her adventurous spirit. She also treasured her time at the Salvation Army Church in Bellaire.

Debra is survived by her children, Donna (Jason) Henthorn, of Portsmouth, OH, Jamie (David) Huffman of Newton, NC, Wendy Soles of Rayland, Kimberly Soles of Rayland, James Norman (Nicole Turner) Soles Jr. of Dillonvale, who were the center of her life and among her proudest accomplishments. She is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Wilson, and Mary Fisher, and by her brothers, James Peters, and Donald Carroll. Their shared memories of her wit, strength, and unmistakable personality will continue to bring both laughter and comfort in the days ahead.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Norman Soles Sr., and by her parents, John Sr. Peters and Dorothy Carroll Peters.

Debra will be remembered as a woman who said what she thought, loved her family fiercely, and brought her own spark wherever she went. Whether she was enjoying time with her grandchildren, playing games, working in the garden, caring for her animals, or heading toward the roller coasters with more excitement than anyone else, she lived in a way that made an impression. Her family and friends will carry her memory forward with love, with smiles, and surely with a few stories that begin with, “That was just Debra.” Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
