Cynthia Renee Jones, affectionately known as “Grandma Jones” or simply “Cindy,” marched to her own beat until the very end. Born Cynthia Renee Brown on March 28, 1960, in Columbus, Ohio, she brought a unique rhythm and style to everything she touched—whether it was her work, her family, or her beloved collection of Dr. Pepper cans.
A proud graduate of Eastmoor High School, Cindy made a career out of caring for others, working at many medical offices, doctor’s offices, and hospitals throughout her life. If you ever wondered how to turn a workplace into a family affair, Cindy had that covered—she used to bring her daughters to work, probably ensuring they picked up her infectious work ethic (or maybe just to keep an eye on them while multitasking).
Her vibrant personality was impossible to ignore. A breast cancer survivor with a fierce spirit, she never sat down when others would. Instead, she was always helping out, sewing, cooking, baking, and dote on her daughter Tyyetta. For those who knew her, memories of Cindy often included the sound of her singing, parents dancing in the living room, and an unwavering dedication to do anything for her children. And let’s not forget Buttercream, her cat, who surely felt like an honorary member of the family.
Cindy’s proudest accomplishments were not the medals or certificates but the joy and legacy of her family. She is survived by four wonderful children: Tyyetta Jones of Martins Ferry; Jamaal Jones of Columbus; Kyonna Jones of Martins Ferry; and Yusef (Harlee) Davis of Springfield. Her legacy lives on even more vibrantly through her 12 grandchildren—Ja’Liya, Joseph, Jamaal, Amari, Mi’Onnah, Ka’Miyah, Ki’Miyah, Li’Onnah, Dakota, Zaniya, Amiya, and Zamir—and two great-grandchildren, Jaion and Jazai. Cindy’s nephew Dante also carries a piece of her spirit with him.
She volunteered her time generously at the Rec Center, giving back to her community in ways that only Cindy Jones could—with boundless energy and love. Sadly, she passed unexpectedly at home on May 12, 2026, with a history of epilepsy likely playing a role in her sudden departure.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her loving parents, John Sr. and Rosetta Marie (Rankin) Brown, and her devoted husband, Lawrence Cortez Jones. Their memories, along with all those moments of Mommy singing and parents dancing, remain treasures held close by all who loved her.
Cindy Jones leaves behind a world slightly less colorful and a lot less lively—but with a heart bursting with stories, laughter, and a lifetime of love that will be shared and remembered with warmth and a touch of humor. She truly lived on her own terms, and the best tribute we can give is to keep dancing to our own beat, just like she taught us to do. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
