Cheryl Ann Black

Cheryl Ann Black ( Burrier), affectionately known as “Munga” to her cherished grandkids, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 23, 2026, at Valley Hospice Care Center North. Born on May 9, 1950, in Steubenville, Ohio, Cheryl lived each day with the love of life, infusing laughter, love, and a touch of sass into every room she entered.

The tapestry of Cheryl’s life was woven from vibrant threads of joy, fierce independence, and unyielding devotion to those she loved. A proud graduate of the Class of 1968, Cheryl’s entrepreneurial spirit knew no limits: she owned and operated Blackmoor Golf Club in Richmond, and Indian Run in Avella, Pennsylvania, later venturing to Florida, where she managed The Lakes Golf Club and Stone Crest Golf Course. Along side her husband, her talents also steered a successful construction company, a testament to her unrelenting drive, courage, and knack for creating vibrant communities.

But for Cheryl, success was not only found in business ventures. Her heart always beat for her family, whom she placed above all else. She delighted in camping trips, the rhythm of dance floors, and the friendly competition of card games—Euker, Rummy, Corn Hole League—or bowling frames. She was involved in the following clubs Bunco Babes, Nifty-Niners golf Community Bunco, Coast to Coast Club, Rascals Club, Garden Club, Corn Hole Team. Cheryl was the life of the party, never content to sit still, never holding her tongue, always ready with a sharp joke or spirited story. Her fierce and funny spirit was a beacon to all who knew her—she lived life with sass and vigor, and she never stopped moving.

Cheryl’s generous nature shone in the simplest acts: baking cookies to share, and ensuring sweets and smiles found their way to friends and neighbors. She was a consummate hostess, always ready to gather loved ones—her home a hub of warmth, laughter, and endless hand sanitizer. The beach was her sanctuary; her smile, infectious; her arms, always open.

As a proud mother and grandmother, Cheryl counted her children and grandchildren among her proudest accomplishments, nurturing each with a fierce love that shaped and inspired. She embodied a rare blend of nurturing and spunk—creating lasting memories and a legacy of laughter, kindness, and resilience.

Cheryl’s memory will be lovingly carried forward by her devoted husband, David Allen Black of 45 years; her daughter, Christina Rock; her son, James (Jessica)  Breon; sister, Raylene (Archie) Francis her step-son, John (Sue) Black; her step-daughter Sherrie Rogers;  11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. 

While she is reunited in everlasting peace with her parents, Melvin and Violet Burrier; her step son, Todd Black; her siblings, Sandra Vance, Melvin Burrier, Alice Bates, and Gary Burrier, she leaves behind a family rooted deeply in her values and traditions.

Though Cheryl Ann Black’s hands are now at rest, the echoes of her laughter, her infectious spirit, and the love she so freely gave will linger in the hearts of all who were fortunate to walk through life with her. Her story—marked by memorable adventures, deep connections, and an irrepressible zest for life—reminds us all to live fiercely, to laugh, to cherish those close, and to savor each beautiful day.
