Blanchard Osborne Atwood Jr., a man whose life could be best summarized as “If it’s got a roof, a deck, or a batch of cement, Blanchard probably worked on it – and did it right,” passed away unexpectedly on April 27, 2026, in Trinity West due to renal failure. Born on January 8, 1971, in Baltimore, Maryland, Blanchard’s journey was anything but ordinary, unless you count ordinary as being a happy-go-lucky, mischievous young boy with a heart of gold and an uncanny ability to finish jobs with impeccable pride.

A roofer by trade and a do-it-all handyman by nature, he began his career with Maronda Homes but quickly expanded his talents to construction projects of every kind. Blanchard wasn’t just your typical worker; he was the guy who kept his word by always being on time and believed firmly that a job done right was a job worth bragging about. It was said among friends that if there was a round, bouncy ball anywhere nearby—warning, these could range from ping-pong to stress balls—Blanchard had probably collected it. Yes, our beloved deck builder and cement pourer was secretly a connoisseur of round, bouncy balls, a passion rivaled only by his love for baseball and rabid devotion to the Baltimore Ravens.

In his personal life, he was a man of great contrasts and surprising speed when switching from grumpy to groovy mode within a minute. Blanchard’s happiness was contagious, and his emotions were quicksilver, yet he managed not to let life’s little bothers stick around too long. A lover of animals, particularly cats—probably the only creatures who truly appreciated his happy-go-lucky ways—he found joy in nature, whether hunting, fishing, or simply soaking in the great outdoors while engaging in deep discussions about the mysteries of life and nature.

Blanchard’s fondness for steamed crabs and his mother Madeline Ann (Myers) Atwood’s homemade crab cakes was legendary in family kitchens, clearly contributing to his Baltimore roots. Speaking of family, Blanchard spent treasured moments with his father, Blanchard Osborne Atwood Sr., whenever he could, reinforcing that bond with plenty of dad and son memories to last a lifetime.

He leaves behind a lively and loving circle of family and friends: his father Blanchard Osborne Atwood Sr.; sister Tina (Dan) Warlick of Michigan; girlfriend Sherri Hunter and step-granddaughter Pyper Hunter, both of Wintersville; friend Patricia Carol Morris, also of Wintersville; and his five nephews—Vernon Lechner of Baltimore; Joe Warlick of Florida; Josh, Jake, and Justin Warlick of Michigan—as well as his niece Jena Warlick of Michigan. Blanchard’s mother, Madeline Ann (Myers) Atwood, preceded him in death, likely shaking her head at the collection of bouncy balls but proud of the man he became, nonetheless.

In a world full of chaos, Blanchard Osborne Atwood Jr. was the steady hand that showed up on time, got the job done, and managed to brighten your day with a grin and a story about nature or a baseball game. His life was a testament to hard work, quick temper, even quicker happiness, and a heart wide enough to help anyone in need.

Farewell, Blanchard. May your days forever be filled with perfectly laid shingles, endlessly bouncy balls, and the love of a Baltimore Ravens victory echoing through the heavens.
