Bentson L Beckett

Bentson L. Beckett, known to many as "Ben", passed away at his home on September 25, 2026, at the age of 95. He was born on July 21, 1931, in Steubenville, Ohio, and died of natural causes.

Ben lived a long and hardworking life marked by faith, dedication, and deep family ties. He served in the United States Army for four years. Over the course of his working life, he delivered furniture for Slumber House in Steubenville, worked for Teramana Coal Company, and spent 25 years as a licensed explosive expert for Atlas Powder Company in Mineral City. He took great pride in his work and was especially proud that he “moved mountains” on the job. He was also known for his skill with math problems and for the steady, capable way he approached life.

His faith was an important part of who he was. Ben served as a brother for Steubenville Gospel Hall, He was devoted to Bible school and Sunday school, and he carried his beliefs into the way he lived and cared for others.

Ben will be remembered for his good sense of humor, his serious nature, and the deep respect he earned from those around him. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and lakeside camping. Some of the happiest memories made with him were around horseshoes, big cookouts, massive bonfires, watching fireworks, and tending big gardens. He also enjoyed going to concerts with his children, a reflection of both his care and his thoughtful way of looking after those he loved.

Above all, Ben was a family man. He is survived by children Patsy Mielke of Hopedale, Penny Rayl of Hopedale, Bentson Beckette Jr. of Bloomingdale, Brian (Twila) Beckette of Port Washington, Donna Marie Howard, of Bloomingdale, Debbie Ann Hicks, New York, and William (Brenda) Daniel Beckett, of Jewett

Survived by sisters, Gloria Keller and Kay Kinker. His family circle also includes many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren whose lives carry forward his memory and example.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willam Beckett; his mother, Ida May (Zook) Beckett; his wife Patricia Ann (Roe) Beckett of 68 years, his daughter Belinda Beckett; ,his brother, Lawrence Beckett,  sister Laura Snyder; her husband Jim, Florance Tylor and Diana Tahatie; his brother,  and his daughter-in-law, Nina Beckette. and son in law Dwayne Hicks.

Family and friends will be received for visitation on October 3, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Schuetz Funeral Home, 235 Clifton Ave., Mingo Junction, Ohio 43938. Funeral services will be from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Jack Jackson celebrant.

Ben’s life was one of work, faith, strength, and enduring love for his family. He leaves behind the memory of a respected man whose presence was felt in the home, at church, at work, and in the many simple joys he shared with those around him. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
