Albert Lee Wise, known to many as Al, passed away on August 27, 2026, in McMechen, West Virginia, after a lengthy battle with liver disease. He was born on May 30, 1970, in Glen Dale, West Virginia, and his life was marked by humor, generosity, and deep love for his family.
Al will be remembered as an outgoing and charismatic man whose presence could light up a room. He had a gift for making people laugh and was known for his giving and loving nature. He enjoyed being with family and friends and was often the life of the party, bringing energy, warmth, and humor wherever he went.
He attended John Marshall High School and later worked in restaurant management, where he took pride in what he created and shared with others. His pizza dough and peanut butter cookies became part of the memories he leaves behind. Among his proudest accomplishments, none meant more to him than raising his two sons.
Al found joy in simple and lasting pleasures. He loved fishing and cooking, cheered for the 49ers and the Steelers, enjoyed bow hunting in Florida, and treasured time with the people he loved. At Christmas, one tradition stood out: the pickle ornament on the tree, with the one who found it earning the right to open the first gift. This meaningful custom reflected the fun, togetherness, and playful spirit he cherished.
Al is survived by his two sons, Alan “A.J.” Wise and his wife, Lisa, of Barnesville, and Carson Lee Wise of Glendale. He is also survived by Valerie Van Weelden, his former wife and mother of A.J., and Kerri Wise, his former wife and mother of Carson. He leaves behind his brother, Mike Wise, and his wife, Billie Jo, of Moundsville; his sisters, Barbara Davis and her husband, Gordon, of Sardinia, Ohio, and Roberta Lynn Wise of Moundsville; his mother-in-law, Linda Kersten; many nieces and nephews; his biological siblings, Johnnyray Wise and Bobbie Lynn; and his caretaker, Brittany Long, and her daughter, Raeghan “Little Pickle,” whose care and presence were an important part of his journey.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Wise; his mother, Barbara Wise; and his biological mother, Linda Tilton.
Al’s memory will live on in the laughter he sparked, the meals he shared, the traditions he kept, and the love he gave so freely. Those who knew and loved him will carry him forward in stories, gatherings, and the everyday reminders of the joy he brought into their lives.
